To kick off the main card For ONE 159, Aussie Danial Williams (6-1) scored a stunning knockout over Zelang Zhaxi (16-7-1) in the first round.

The win for Williams extends his MMA win streak to five in a row as he continues to climb the ranks in ONE FC.

Since his remarkable Muay Thai fight against Rodtang Jitmuangnon (268-42-10, Muay Thai), Perth’s Danial Williams has been quick to make his mark in the ONE FC promotion, as he has solidified himself as a top contender in the company’s Strawweight division with victories over Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke (12-7) and Namiki Kawahara (7-5-2, 1 NC).

Coming into his next fight against Zelang Zhaxi, fans knew that a win for ‘Mini T’ would take him a step closer to a potential title shot down the lane.

The fight started off fast with Williams using his jab while Zhaxi started to get inside and land power shots, including a big right hook that cut The Aussie.

After getting clipped, Williams would work on keeping his range and feinting his entries, while kicking the outside of his Chinese opponent’s left leg.

Although Zhaxi was having some success with the jab, he would often throw a lead left hook when Williams came in the pocket, leaving the left side of his head exposed.

After taking note of this, The Aussie would start to use the right cross to take advantage of this opening.

After doing more damage to the Chinaman’s left leg, The Perth Native would counter a check left hook with a massive right hand that sent Zhaxi stumbling to the canvas, forcing the referee to stop the fight after 4:20 of action.

In his post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson, Williams said that patience was the key to him getting the knockout victory.

“I Stuck to the game plan this time that’s the main thing” Williams said, “I stayed patient I didn’t rush at him, I didn’t use that Muay Thai brain on where I want to switch on and just go the whole time.”

“We just picked that shot, we worked to set that right hand and it worked so, absolutely stoked.”

Williams also stated that he noticed some weaknesses in Zhaxi’s balance en route to the stoppage.

“I just knew everytime I angled off, he was abit off-balance” Williams stated “so I was just staying patient to walk to the side, and I was trying to hold back because of that showboating, It gets me a little bit, but my coaches were like stay patient and it worked.”

“We set up the angle straight to the right and got him on the chin.”

While The Aussie said that he wanted to be back in the cage as soon as possible, he was vocal about fighting ONE Muay Thai Strawweight Champion Joseph Lasiri.

“If the Strawweights (Zhang Peimian or Aslanbek Zikreev) pull out after this I’ll literally jump in right now” Williams said, “I want to get straight back in there, same with The Grand Prix in the Flyweight (division) if anyone pulls out ill actually jump in there and hang with those boys in a different weight.”

“But what I really want, I’ve made it clear on social media, I do want Joseph Lasiri for the Strawweight Muay Thai World Title, he needs to defend that right now, I’m the guy to beat.”

“I’m 6-1 MMA, I’m knocking on the title shot for MMA, nobody is doing that in this division right now.”

“But honestly, I’m the guy to beat in this division, no one can go mixed sports like I am at the best, you want to talk about true martial artists, that’s me.”

“You guys (need to) stop calling me one-dimensional because I can actually hang with all the different weight classes in all the different sports and I can become a world champion.”

The victory for “Mini T” marks his third straight under the ONE FC banner and with this impressive run, it is safe to say that the Aussie is knocking on the door for a world title opportunity.

Whether that be MMA, Muay Thai or Kickboxing, William’s goal of becoming a three-sport world champion is certainly going to plan.

Williams also earned a $50,000 bonus with the stoppage win.
