On Sunday, September 11th, 2022, at approximately 4:49 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between two vehicles at the intersection of Decker Ln. and Loyola Ln. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a four-door sedan, accompanied by two passengers, was traveling north on Decker Ln. At the same time, the driver of a Chevrolet van was traveling south on Decker Ln. As the four-door sedan attempted to turn left on Loyola Ln., the Chevrolet van could not avoid crashing into the sedan.

All three occupants of the sedan were taken to a hospital, where one of the passengers died. The van driver was also taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment. There were no signs of impairment in the drivers.

This crash is being investigated as Austin's 72nd fatal crash of 2022, resulting in 74 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2021, there were 81 fatal crashes resulting in 87 deaths.
