Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has hinted at a new Ibrox deal for veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

The 40-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season after he extended his stay by a year in April 2021.

Many thought that he was on his way out of the door with fellow senior shot-stopper Jon McLaughlin penning a new deal this season but the Dutchman has given Light Blues fans some hope.

Van Bronckhorst said via footballscotland: “I spoke to Allan about it this week. He missed the final in 2008 but he has another chance to play a final in Europe next week.

“I’m really happy about that because he is a very experienced player.

“You always need a balance and mix between experienced players and talents. We have that.

“We’re sitting down with all the experienced players after the season but it’s important for them to concentrate on the final week and then we’ll see what happens.”

If Rangers win the Europa League this season you would imagine that would be the best time for McGregor to go.

The former Hull City ace has been an excellent player for the Gers over the years and will undoubtedly want to end his time at the club on a high, and there is no better way to do that than by winning a major European honour – hopefully, the double with Hearts to play in the Scottish Cup.

A potential exit has been on the cards for so long now but the manager’s latest comments suggest otherwise.

McGregor staying at the club wouldn’t be a bad thing. You can never have too much experience when pushing on all fronts as the Gers will certainly look to do in the next campaign.

As long as he can maintain the high levels that earned him the number one spot it will be a bonus, because his form has come under question this season at times with his age being a massive talking point.

In other Rangers news, a Premier League club wants to sign a Rangers mainstay with one big-money deal already done ahead of summer, according to a report.
