Fire crews from Swindon had to rescue a pilot and passenger from a plane after it crashed nearby. 

The light aircraft, which only had two people on board, came down in a field in Lower Upham, Ogbourne St George at 2.51pm on Saturday afternoon. 

Three crews from Stratton, Westlea and Swindon rushed to the scene and discovered the plane's occupants trapped inside. 

They had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to bring the two people to safety.

One was taken to hospital by air ambulance and one by road. 

In 2020 another light aircraft crash landed in a field between Ogbourne St George and Chiseldon.

The pilot, a man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and fire crews acted fast to make the crash site safe. 

On Thursday, August 4 two people were taken to hospital after a light aircraft overshot a runway and landed on a roadside ditch.

The incident happened shortly after 10:30 BST at Cotswold Airport in Kemble, on the border of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

The plane, which was carrying a pilot and two passengers, came down next to the A429.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been informed of the crash, it added.
