Mia Goth is terrific in "Pearl," writer-director Ti West's prequel to this year's "X," in which Goth played a dual role as the old lady killer who takes out a crew of young pornographers making a movie on her Texas ranch, as well as one of the young stars of the production within the film.

"Pearl" is a lark — do we really need a separate film diving into the backstory of "X's" killer? — but Goth, who is in nearly every frame of the film, is so deliriously transfixing that she makes the whole enterprise worthwhile. After "Pearl," there's nowhere Goth and West can't go.

Doug Mastriano, the Republican candidate for Pennsylvania governor, was reportedly registered to vote in New Jersey until last year, opening himself up to the kind of carpetbagger accusations that have dogged Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Pinch-runner Ernie Clement raced home from second base on a wild pitch in the eighth inning for the go-ahead run and the AL-Central leading Cleveland Guardians rallied for a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a crucial five-game series. Trevor Stephan (6-4) while Emmanuel Clase gave up an infield hit in the ninth, but got Gilberto Celestino on a groundout for his 36th save. Cleveland leads Minnesota by five games and has clinched the season series with a 10-5 edge, giving the Guardians the tiebreaker. Cleveland has won six straight over the Twins. The teams play a day-night doubleheader Saturday followed by games Sunday and Monday.

Allstate raised auto insurance rates by 14% in Illinois last month, dramatically outpacing the national average and the inflation rate. State Farm wasn’t far behind, increasing rates by more than 8% for Illinois drivers in August.

Ryan Sieg claimed the last spot in the Xfinity Series playoff field when Landon Cassill had mechanical issues that sent Cassill behind the wall for more than 100 laps.
