Talking the business of sports

Now that Andrew Benintendi has been acquired by the Yankees, baseball fans awaiting the next wave of deals ahead of the August 2 trade deadline are focused on Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani rumors. While the talent of both players isn't in question, their production in recent games is worth considering when it comes down to including them in your MLB DFS lineups on Friday. Over their last 10 games, both have hit below .230, and combined, they have just seven RBI during that stretch.

Each player looks like a strong option in the MLB DFS player pool on Friday, however. Washington takes on St. Louis and starting pitcher Miles Mikolas, who Soto is 3-for-8 with a home run and two RBI against. Los Angeles faces Texas and lefty starter Martin Perez, who Ohtani holds a .364 average against in 11 previous at bats. Before making any MLB DFS picks for Friday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won over $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book "Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune" as a top MLB DFS player, McClure's proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Thursday, McClure highlighted Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman as one of his top MLB DFS picks on DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Freeman had a double, two walks and scored two runs with a pair of RBI to return 22 points on DraftKings and 31.4 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, as the 2022 MLB season continues, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Friday, July 29. Head to SportsLine now to see them.

For Friday, one of McClure's MLB DFS picks is Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner, who is listed at $5,600 on DraftKings and $4,300 on FanDuel. Turner has been on an incredible 15-game hitting streak, and has 24 total hits with six doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI during that stretch. Against Colorado on Thursday, Turner went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, which brought his total to 72 for the season.

Los Angeles continues its series against the Rockies on Friday at hitter-friendly Coors Field and will face starting pitcher Chad Kuhl, who gave up five runs on as many hits in just 2.1 innings of work in his last start on Sunday. Kuhl was much better against the Dodgers on June 27 when he held Turner to an 0-for-4 night at the plate in a complete game win. Prior to that, Turner was 2-for-8 against Kuhl with a double, but his recent hot streak suggests he's in a better spot to produce some offense on Friday.

Another part of McClure's optimal MLB DFS strategy includes stacking Turner with third baseman Max Muncy ($3,900 on DraftKings and $2,900 on FanDuel). Muncy started his night with a second inning single in the Dodgers 13-0 win over Colorado on Thursday, but just missed out on batting in some runs in the fourth inning on a groundout that advanced two baserunners. Overall, Muncy's 2022 numbers haven't been overly impressive, but he has three hits in his last four starts and made contact in four of his five at bats on Thursday.

Muncy was 0-for-3 in the Dodgers' previous game against Kuhl, but the Rockies pitcher was on top of his game that day, and not coming off such a poor performance in his previous start. In Thursday's game, Muncy hit seventh in the lineup, and if that is where he returns on Friday, he could be positioned for better results than he's had recently. Against batters that hit seventh in the order, Kuhl has allowed opponents to hit .306 with a .909 OPS this season.

McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who is set to explode for huge numbers on Friday. The stars are aligning for him to return tournament-winning value and he comes at a price that won't break the bank. You can only see who it is here.
