A new Italian restaurant has taken over the former Mimi’s Old Town Mexican Restaurant space at 321 N. Mead. Introducing Bocatto: Eatery and Pasta. They recently opened and of course, we had to stop by and check out the new eatery in Old Town.

The menu featured pastas, paninis and a ton more. Many Italian classics and pretty much any popular Italian dish could be had. We started our visit off with the scampi shrimp toast. The shrimp and sauce it was doused in were excellent; nice sweet flavor to them. The toast, unfortunately, was way too hard. Biting into it was a chore, and felt as if it was nearly rock solid. This was some feedback we did provide them.

For lunch, the gentleman who joined me had the chicken marsala which he did enjoy.

For my entrees, I decided to go with two to get a sampling of different items. I had the balsamic portabello panini and the roasted herb chicken.

The latter was probably my favorite; juicy, succulent chicken with a nicely seasoned skin that was loaded with flavor. The dish sat in some sort of lemon sauce which gave the whole meal a lighter, refreshing bite. As for the panini, I wasn’t too fond of the fries that came with it, they could have used some salt or something. Loved the huge portabello mushroom, but the ciabatta bun roll just didn’t do it for me. It lacked the chewy sweetness, the bun was tougher than I was expecting.

There were some bright spots and low lights to our lunch at Bocatto. It may have been our server’s first day working because the attentiveness wasn’t there. Lack of refills, getting us our ticket; basic things that took away from the entire experience that was already iffy.

I was going to write a review immediately after eating, but wanted to take the night to think it over. Bocatto didn’t exactly wow me, but I’m hoping over time they can.
