A city man faces multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a home and fighting with the residents.

John Paul Mattiello, 39, was visibly intoxicated when he knocked on the door of a home on the 300 block of Bell Avenue, the residents told police, and after being told to go home, he became aggressive and forced his way into the home.

According to court documents, Mattiello and a female victim knew each other from their drug and alcohol classes and Mattiello became infatuated with the woman. At 12:52 a.m. Saturday, Mattiello arrived at the woman’s home as she and her husband were sleeping.

When Mattiello knocked on the door, a family friend who was downstairs on the couch went upstairs to wake the woman and her husband and all three adults went to open the door.

After forcing his way inside, Mattiello hit the woman’s husband and the friend, and police reported both victims were bleeding.

The three were able to force Mattiello back outside, where he proceeded to punch out the glass storm door and began punching through glass windows of the main door, while the adults protected several juveniles who were in the home.

Police said broken glass was all over the porch, and the door and siding of the house were covered in blood.

Once in custody, Mattiello continued to scream and shout lewd obscenities toward the home, police reported.

After he was placed into a police vehicle, he began to kick and strike the back window, police said, noting that he was covered in blood from the cuts he suffered when he broke the glass door to the home.

Police transported Mattiello to the station and as three officers tried to take him inside, he used his foot to push off of the exterior door in an attempt to stop them. Officers had to use substantial force to overcome Mattiello’s resistance, court documents state.

Mattiello was arraigned Saturday before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio on felony charges of burglary-person present, bodily injury crime and criminal trespass, along with misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, loitering and disorderly conduct and summary charges of harassment and public drunkenness.

Unable to post $100,000 bail, he was remanded to the Blair County Prison.

His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 14 before DeAntonio.
