Automotive technology has come a long way and it’s about to come full circle. Innovations have delivered almost any kind of transportation society needs for comfort, convenience, and functionality, but it’s come at a cost. The damage caused to the environment through carbon emissions has brought about changes in the climate with increasingly damaging effects. Most auto manufacturers are getting on board with the new movement to supplement engines run on fossil fuels and some are replacing them with electrified versions that are easier on the planet and the humans that have breathed in polluted air for decades. Genesis revealed its plans to offer a 2023 model of a passenger sedan that will follow its GV60 crossover. They call it the 2023 Electrified G80. It’s exciting news for drivers who prefer a midsize sporty sedan with the convenience of four doors. Here is everything we know about the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 so far.

Few automakers focus their attention on sedan versions these days. The rising popularity of SUVs and compact vehicles has stolen the limelight and it leaves sedan lovers with fewer options. Forbes confirms that Genesis is committed to keeping the passenger sedan in supply. Although the information on the upcoming model is still rolling in, we know that it will make its debut in four states with more to follow starting in 2023. The lucky consumers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and California will be the first to get a chance at ownership. Genesis has planned the release with these states first because they’re EV-friendly territories with better access to charging stations. It’s presumed that we’ll see the first G80s make their way to the dealerships in late Summer to early Fall.

The Genesis G80 is available in a choice of three trims currently, but the electric version may make history as the first in the lineup to pave the way for the brand’s commitment to transition to manufacturing all-electric vehicles by the year 2030. It’s the wave of the future as more automakers are trending in that direction. It’s the flagship EV sedan model for the brand and here is what we can expect to see.

Car and Driver explains that the Electrified G80 sedan is nearly identical to the 2022 model of the G80 3.5T Sport version in its Prestige trim. This gives you an idea of what to expect visually. The design team made a few tweaks and replaced some of the components with materials that weigh less. Some of the steel parts are now aluminum and some are carbon fiber to take some of the additional weight off the vehicle to compensate for the heavier elements of the electrification system. Even with the reduction of the curb weight of the vehicle, it still comes in almost 600 pounds more than the fuel version. They stiffened the chassis and replaced the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with an 87.2 kWh battery with a dual motor in an all-wheel-drive version. Genesis claims that the new power system will generate 365 horsepower with an impressive 516 lb-ft of torque. We were impressed with the performance aspect that tested the vehicle in a sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. It’s only slightly behind the fuel-powered model. Genesis advertises the range at 282 miles on a full charge. The vehicle can be hooked into a fast charger to take the power reserve from ten to eighty percent in 22 minutes for a quick charge. When plugged into a Level 2 outlet, the battery will charge from an empty state to full in slightly more than seven hours.

There are a few aesthetics that are different in the upcoming 2023 Electrified G80. The tailpipes are no longer necessary and are removed. The grille is a solid crest style with diagonal lines embossed, and the roof is 0.2 inches higher than the gas version. Genesis also gives it 19-inch turbine-style wheels and a charge port door that is camouflaged in the diagonal pattern of the grille. It will be available in an exclusive Matira Blue color. Genesis confirms that the 2023 Electrified G80 will feature a two-tone interior with Glacier White and Dark Lagoon Green and tons of white space. The seats will feature Nappa leather with sustainable materials and tints from natural dyes. Garnishes of Forged Wood that are eco-friendly preserve the brand’s commitment to sustainable luxury. Some of the wood elements are made of wood that is recycled from manufacturing processes to reduce the amount of waste and turn the byproducts into artistic creations. Genesis claims that advanced technologies and engineering is featured in battery performance that maintains stability in all temperatures with charging experiences that are faster and easier in more accessible places. Motor Trend reveals that the estimated base price of the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 will be $75,000.

In approximately one year, the new 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 will begin its debut in the United States. It will first appear in California and some Eastern States, where EV-friendly environments will enhance its value. The model will pave the way for a new generation of electrified vehicles as Genesis follows through on its commitment to achieving total electrification by 2030. It’s a preview of the future for drivers as we face the consequences of the damage we’ve caused to our environment and do what we can to improve the planet’s health. The EV industry is moving toward a new way of life and travel, and we may one day see more charging stations than gas stations. It’s an exciting new age that we’re entering. We await the arrival of the new Genesis Electrified G80 with high expectations.
